Important News: Africa Podcast Day 2023 Cancellation
Hello to all our friends, fellow podcasters and the wider Africa Podfest community around the world
We are ending the year with many important gains for the African podcaster community, many of which we have been privileged to be at the forefront of throughout, including becoming fund administrators of the Spotify Africa Podcast Fund and delivering cutting edge African podcast audience and ecosystem research through the Is This Mic On? and the Discovery Tour: Data Edition which many of you have accessed through www.podcasting.africa
As we close the year, we have some news about Africa Podcast Day 2023. We regret to inform you that we are canceling the upcoming Africa Podcast Day 2023 event.
Next Steps
Many of you have bought tickets and made plans to join us in person and virtually on Sunday 12th February 2023 for the 4th edition of Africa Podcast Day. We had hoped that this would be our year to return to meeting in person and also create deeper connections across the continent and globally.
Our beloved festival has traditionally been supported wholly by dedicated sponsors from around the world. As many of you have already noted, the current economic climate has been difficult across the business environment. While we had hoped to bring our community together around discovering Africa's Top Podcast Innovators on Africa Podcast Day, our current situation is that we have way more podcasters who need support to attend, than we do have actual resources to bring them together.
Furthermore, we have been working tirelessly to try and plug the sponsorship gap, however, the economic crisis has created a lot of uncertainty.
We will be processing full refunds to ticket holders over the next few days. We wish to thank everyone who has participated in the Access Grant and our various ticket giveaways to support the upcoming event.
We hope that you have a gentle close of 2022 and wish you happy and restful holidays.
