Discovery Tour: Data Edition
Missed the webinar? Want the Report? Read on + New Job Board Opportunity
THIS WEEK: On Thursday 12th May Africa Podfest and Baraza Media Lab launched our 2022 African podcasting research report - the Discovery Tour: Data Edition in partnership with Baraza Media Lab. This collaborative project surfaced crucial information and insights to support investment in innovative business models within the podcasting industry, which is showing tremendous potential. Building on the 2021 Baseline Study “ Is This Mic On?”, we continued the work in 2022 with a mixed methods research study combining a qualitative and quantitative approach to podcasting in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
The aim in this second phase of research was to better understand the growth and sustainability of African podcasting in three leading African podcasting markets - Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. The research question being addressed is "What does growth and sustainability for African podcasting mean?" During the project, we have been able to uncover podcast themes, needs and perceptions of podcasters, audience engagement and motivations driving podcast growth in three of Africa’s largest podcast markets - Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
We hope you will engage with the final report findings, and other published products from the collaborative research study.
We wish to thank our network which spans beyond Africa Podfest and Baraza Media Lab for the efforts that these organizations and individuals have undertaken to conceptualize, implement and locate the report in the current African podcast landscape.
Special thanks to Benjamin Mboya, Maryanne Emomeri, Allan Wasega, Peter Mwenda, Rosa Nassivila, Pauline Bokea, Sitati Kituyi and Marcus Olang' who worked with Africa Podfest research to bring this to you. We also thank Maurice Otieno - Executive Director, Baraza Media Lab, Vanessa Gathecha - Head of Research, Baraza Media Lab and the entire Baraza Media Lab team which supported this project.
